Home Is Wherever We Are

Home Is Wherever We Are

Did you know that you can actually buy a home, in Florida, while you are driving a motor home to and from North Carolina? Well, let me tell you, it can be done, and it’s what we did! Thank God Jim is so smart and he knew just what to do. There were many emails being thrown around and several stops to the UPS store to scan and send documents. Phone calls were made to obtain insurances, and there was lots of holding our breath. But, it all worked out and on August 1st, we took possession of the keys to our new home.

As we move off of the Happy Destiny, I for one, have my emotions all over the place. What an amazing experience we have had!

Living full time, aboard a boat, is a series of give and takes. We gave up our space. We gave up our stuff. We gave up and left our children, grandchildren and our friends. We gave up our jobs. We gave up our privacy. We gave up our hot tub! What we took was our adventure. Our courage. We took a 42 foot boat and made it our home. We took a dream and made it a reality.

We really did enjoy every single minute of our life on the Happy Destiny. We are so blessed that we got to have this life experience. Not too many people, in the big scheme of things, get to do what we did, and for that I am grateful to my God, for giving me what it takes to really embrace this journey.

What an adventure we have had!

Moving forward, buying our home and moving in has been a joy. Our new home is beautiful and, again, I am thanking my God for the blessings he has offered a girl like me. Jim is such a great husband and I appreciate how much he cares for me. He has allowed me to pick up some pieces that I left behind in California. He told me I could buy some “stuff” to make our new house feel like a home. We were blessed that the previous owners left some very nice pieces of furniture for us to keep. Jim bought himself a fancy recliner chair, a big TV and a great barbecue! I picked a gorgeous new bedroom set and some pretty pictures for the walls. I am pretty much done decorating and have made a promise to myself to stay mindful of how much I learned living on on boat. Less is more, and honestly, we had so little coming into the home, that I intend to keep it that way. The great thing about having this mindset is I don’t have to clean house everyday! Everything has a place, just like on the boat.

It is my intention to go back to work. Jim will continue to drive for Uber/Lyft, and I hopefully will return to a hospital setting. I spend a lot of time alone and I’m feeling the need to get back out into the world. I have a passion to help others, and working in a hospital is where I feel whole. I’ve already had a few interviews. We’ll see what God has in store for me.

We will travel in the RV, often I hope. If I just get a part time job, it will leave time for some 4 day adventures on the road. We also will be selling the Happy Destiny and getting a smaller boat, so we can continue to enjoy what we love best- being on the water! Our new home has a little boat dock, so we are excited for the possibilities.

So, all in all, life in Florida is in session! We are now on land, and, as we move forward, we will continue to be grateful for where we have been planted, for all of the adventures we have been privileged to experience, and for the love Jim and I share.

Life is good ♥️
